How to Delete Minecraft on Mac

Minecraft is a big-name third-person sandbox video game from Microsoft’s Mojang AB. Initially created by game developer Markus Persson, who later sold Mojang AB to Microsoft, Minecraft is the second best-sold game of all time. It is available on all platforms including macOS. Considering the number of copies sold, it’s unsurprising that Minecraft could have eventually found its way to your Mac. Now, if you have decided you need it uninstalled, follow the step described below to completely delete Minecraft from your Mac.

How to Delete Minecraft Account

To fully opt of Mojang’s Minecraft you will have to delete your Mojang account as well as the game client. This step is optional, yet allows to completely disassociate your data from the game developer.

Please note, deleting your Mojang account means that you will not be able to access Mojang services, purchase or play purchased games using the account. You also won’t be able to register a new account using the email address of the deleted account.

Take these steps to delete your account:

1. Open your browser and head to Mojang website
2. Log in to your account and choose Settings
3. Make sure your is secure and set up security questions if you haven’t yet
4. Scroll down and click on Learn how in Delete your account section
5. Click on Request account deletion
6. Go to your email inbox, open Mojang email and follow the link (valid for 24 hours)
7. Answer security questions and enter your password
8. Click on Delete my account

How to Completely Uninstall Minecraft

Once your account has been deleted you can proceed to fully uninstalling Minecraft from your Mac computer. Complete manual removal will take some hunting around for associated files that are scattered around multiple folders in your user library. If you don’t feel like taking the time to do that, you can skip this one and check out the quicker approach described below. Begin by uninstalling Minecraft by taking the usual steps:

• Open Finder > Applications
• Locate Minecraft.app
• Drag & drop Minecraft to Trash
• Ctrl-click on Trash icon and choose Empty Trash

Now that you have removed the core application, continue on to find its leftover data.

• Open Finder
• Hold Shift-Command-G to bring up Go to the folder window
• Copy and paste ~/Library/Application Support/ directory
• Locate minecraft folder and move it to Trash
• Hit Shift-Command-G again
• Go to each of the folder and look for all items containing mojang in the name

  • ~/Library/Preferences/
  • ~/Library/Saved Application State/
• Move all mojang-related files to Trash

Once you empty the trash bin the entire application will be fully removed from your Apple computer.
